Toy Storage

How many toys does you tiny tot own? Is your entire house over run by toys? Do you see brightly colored tiny plastic objects all over the place? Toy storage is a big problem that all parents with small children face. Here are a few tips that can solve some of your Toy storage problems -

Toy storage tip number 1 -
Buy clear plastic storage boxes. Clear plastic boxes are excellent for organizing toys. A good way for kids to identify what toys go into what boxes is to tape the boxes with pictures. You can usually find pictures with the toys packaging. The cartons that come with toys are useless to hold even the toys that came with it. To hold a large collection of toys buy larger boxes. It is a good idea to group similar toys and put them in one box so that it gets simpler for your child to find them. Always keep one extra box for all the miscellaneous toys that do not have a specific box for them. Do not forget to regularly check these boxes as children may stuff your other important things in the boxes.

Toy storage tip number 2 -
Keep a separate box for all the toys that have several pieces.

Toy storage tip number 3 -
Use smaller boxes to store smaller toys.

Toy storage tip number 4 -
Put expensive toys, toys that require adult supervision while playing or very small toys that you child can swallow in box that is placed on a higher shelf so that your child cannot easily reach them and would your help to play with.

Toy storage tip number 5 -
Spare some time when your child is not at home to go through old toys and clothes and get rid of things you know she doesn't use anymore. If you hesitate before giving away a toy your child might miss, store it in the garage out of sight in case your child remembers it again.

Toy storage tip number 6 -
Encourage your child to discard toys she's outgrown. Pack them up together and bring them to a shelter or a secondhand shop, so your child knows her castoffs will get a good home. Your child can help sort toys to give away, swap, or sell. Letting your child make some of the decisions will let her know her opinion counts.

Toy storage tip number 7 -
Spread a blanket or sheet down before your child begins playing on the floor. When it's time to clean, just pull the corners of the blanket together and everything goes with it. This blanket, sheet, or other protective matting also protects your floor when your child uses glue, paints, crayons, or markers.

Toy storage tip number 8 -
Buy a basket or use a decorated box for things of your child's that you find scattered throughout your home. Make your child responsible for returning her toys, books, and clothing back to where they belong.

Toy Storage Safety Tips -

•  If you are buying a new toy chest with a hinged lid, make sure it has a lid support that will hold the lid open in any position. Test the lid!

•  You may want to look for chests with no lids, or with lightweight removable lids, or ones with sliding doors or panels to prevent the hazard of a falling lid.

•  Look for a chest with ventilation holes that will not be blocked if the chest is placed against the wall, or chest which, when closed, leaves a space between the lid and that sides of the chest.
